Inside Line: Euro Car Parts

Euro Car Parts recommend that the accessory kits should be checked at every brake service. The spring tension of the accessories can reduce by up to 50 percent in 1 – 2 years. If the accessory clips are neglected then this can lead to other problems within the braking system. As an example, if the accessories are changed then this will allow the pads to move in the caliper without restriction preventing the chances of a sticking caliper, which increases the wear rate of the pad.

Inside Line: Cambiare

Oil pressure switches are a weak point on these cars, making up over 50 percent of the top ten Cambiare parts sales for the model.

Brakes are another weak point. ABS problems could be the result of water entering the connectors rather than the failure of the sensor or control unit. Checks should be made of the cleanliness of the terminals before changing components.

Autodata recommends the replacement of the auto transmission oil on 1.0L at 48,000 miles or 4 years, and clutch fluid every 24 months on manuals.

Inside Line: ZF Services

ZF Services UK has advice for technicians replacing the concentric slave cylinder (CSC) on the 2006-on Vauxhall Corsa and other similarly equipped GM models.

Warranty claims have arisen due to incorrect fitting procedures, where the red transportation lock on a Sachs CSC has either been removed prior to installation or left in place after installation. In either case, cylinder damage can result, causing fluid leaks.

The correct process is to install the CSC complete with transportation lock into the transmission housing, tighten the bolts to the correct torque, then remove the transportation lock by pulling its red tab.

Corsa D all engine variants

Brake pad premature wear, caused by brake pedal pivot sticking. New pedal assembly required or pads will wear fast again.

Front suspension lower arms, knocking/banging noise, no apparent wear signs but replacement cures the noises.

Fault codes for no start/immobilised issues indicating that a replacement BCM (body control module) is required, a BCM software update may fix the issue.

1.7 CDTi up to 2008 timing belt every 60,000 miles, usually missed by customers who’s service history is out of sync, - a good upsell.

Problem

DPF forced regeneration may not be possible if fault codes 1901 (general DPF code) and 2003 (specific overpressure code) exist together.

The presence of these codes indicates that the DPF is becoming blocked and creating high pressure pre DPF. Initially this will not have obvious driveability issues but over time driveability will degrade as the DPF becomes clogged.

Forced regeneration is not possible in this scenario as a safety measure to prevent possible thermal related failures from happening during the DPF regeneration process to both engine and vehicle systems.

Petrol models, starter motors can burn out due to faulty ignition switch, but on 1.3CDTI Diesel models the Alternators are prone to premature pulley failure, often caused by a faulty tensioner.

Inside Line: Forté

Forté's Technical Helpline receives over 300 calls per month and have reported an issue on Vauxhall Corsa three Cylinder ecotec engines with top end noise. This is a common fault and can be caused by the paper element oil filter collapsing and breaking up causing excessive oil return to the sump and a blockage in the oil pick-up. The cause of the problem is due to extended oil change intervals.

To cure the fault it is recommended to remove, check and clean the sump/oil pick-up and carry out a Clean & Protect treatment: 45 minute Forté Advanced Formula Motor Flush adding Forté Oil System Protector to the new oil.

Inside Line: First Line

It is not uncommon for the water pump on the 1.2 and 1.6 versions of the Vauxhall/Opel Corsa to need replacement. The First Line technical team however has received a number of calls from workshops that have undertaken the replacement and complained of excessive noise from the pumps following installation.

The noise is caused by the impellor fouling the inside of the cylinder block cavity and after detailed examination, the team has found that the pumps that have been returned for inspection have not been installed correctly.

To date, the 1.7 CDTi version of the Corsa has had two different tensioners on the Synchronous Belt Drive System. The original tensioner was upgraded and there are visible differences between the design of the upgrade and the original.

Note that the installation procedures are different.
