Inside Line: Gates

To date, the 1.7 CDTi version of the Corsa has had two different tensioners on the Synchronous Belt Drive System. The original tensioner was upgraded and there are visible differences between the design of the upgrade and the original.

Note that the installation procedures are different.

It's crucial that the most up-to-date technical data is used before tackling a replacement procedure. Gates kits contain only the most recent upgrade and it is vital that when installing the new tensioner, the engine is cold, set at Top Dead Centre, while the camshaft pulley is blocked with an M6 bolt at 8 o'clock and the injection pump pulley is blocked with an M8 bolt at 5 o'clock. It is essential that the engine is provided with support because the engine bracket must be removed before the procedure commences.
