DVSA figures show that the number of MOT tests carried out in the second quarter of 2021 were down by 32 percent compared with 2019 levels, despite traffic levels being roughly equivalent to pre-pandemic volumes and a record number of used vehicles changing hands.

The reason for the drop is a knock-on effect of last year's MOT extension, which saw the number of tests plummet.
