The DVSA has invited the public to share their views on changing the time that a vehicle has its first MOT from three to four years.
Different ideas about changing the frequency of the statutory test have come and gone over the past fifteen years, but this is the first time that government has invited online responses.

The agency is keen to understand:
- When people think the first date should be
- How making a change to this date will affect businesses
- Whether there should be any other changes to MOT testing
Reacting to the announcement, Stuart James, IGA Chief Executive said: “The MOT has been in the government’s spotlight for some time and the IGA were expecting a review of this type, however the far-reaching nature of the consultation announced this morning goes deeper and wider than anticipated".
The consultation is open until February 28th.
