There are a number of causes of A/C Compressor failure, however in most cases the problem will be caused by just one of a handful of common faults.  Here, DENSO Aftermarket Sales UK’s technical expert, Alan Povey, talks us through the easy way to identify these faults.

CAT's Inside Line: CES

All models:
  1. 8FS and 8FR engine codes. The engine cooling fan motor runs continuously, with an engine code P11AA showing. This is a manufacturer specific code, so it’s not always easy to identify what the code refers to. The problem tends to relate to air leaks on the intake manifold or splits in the vacuum pipes going to the manifold. To fix, either replace the vacuum pipes or repair the leaks themselves.
  1. The central locking can be a problem, with the locking either not operating correctly or not at all. The cause tends to be the result of corroded wiring between the door lock mechanism and the door multi-plug that’s housed in the vehicles A-pillar. To fix, the corroded wiring needs to be repaired.

    CAT's Inside Line: Castrol

The updated 2007 Peugeot 308 introduced a selection of new PSA Group engines, the most popular of which were 1.6- and 2.0-litre HDi turbo-diesels and 1.6-litre VTi petrol engines.  Castrol points out that every engine in the current generation Peugoet 308 was designed to run on fully-synthetic, low viscosity 5W-30 engine oil.

It’s important that vehicle technicians top-up these vehicles with the correct oil formulation.  Anything other than the recommended fully-synthetic 5W-30 C2 formulation will not have the relevant PSA Peugeot Citroen B71 2290 approval (including higher viscosity oils, such as 10W-40), thereby invalidating the manufacturer warranty, and may reduce the efficiency, performance and longevity of the engine.
