Product News: Maverick Diagnostics to distribute Aviloo EV testers

Tool supplier Maverick Diagnostics has held an event to launch a product that can accurately provide a state-of-health analysis of traction batteries used in electric vehicles.

One of the main issues facing a would-be buyer of a used EV, and possibly a reason why secondhand values of these vehicles have tumbled recently, is that the condition of the battery is largely unknown as there has not been an accurate, standardised SoH test. Although dealers occasionally provide a print-out of a test run by their own diagnostic platforms, the way in which the battery is tested varies between providers.

The Aviloo tester uses a dataset gleaned from thousands of EVs to accurately provide a ‘flash’ report on the battery state in a matter of minutes. A more in-depth service is also offered where the user drives the car with the Aviloo dongle plugged into the diagnostics port and the data is reviewed later.

Maverick Diagnostics will be leasing the box with an upfront cost and then a pay-per-use. Currently the device is compatible with around 80% of EV and plug-in hybrid models, including Tesla and Nissan.

Maverick Diagnostics Managing Director, Andy Brooke, said: “Our partnership with Aviloo represents a game-changing opportunity for workshop owners and technicians. This is the first test of its kind. Customers can now see, in the simplest form, what condition their EV or plug-in hybrid’s battery is in. The technician can then use this accurate and reliable information to make a reliable assessment and, potentially, justify a battery replacement.”
