PRA CALLS FOR EXTENSION OF BUSINESS RATE RELIEF

The Chair of the Petrol Retailer's Association has called for an extension to be put on the current business rate relief scheme.

Responding last week to the first part of the Government’s Consultation on Business Rates, Brian Madderson, Chairman of the Petrol Retails Association (PRA) said “We strongly recommend that the present 100% business rates relief for filling stations is continued beyond April 2021, until such time as the Covid-19 restrictions have become less onerous”.

The PRA is also calling for a tapered reduction to 50%, once reinstated, in order to avoid a sudden, cliff-edge return to previous levels which could imperil the recovery of independent retailers.
