A letter seen by CAT from DfT Policy advisor Matthew Packett to MOT stakeholders said: "I am writing to let you know that after feedback from stakeholders we are extending the end date for returns to March 22nd. We hope this additional three weeks will give trade groups and businesses the time to compile additional information for the call for evidence section in particular". Packett added that any further evidence on the subject could still be submitted by email.

The short timespan initially given for the consultation to change the frequency of the MOT lead some to speculate that the decision to change it had already been taken.
