Majority of testers yet to complete annual training

DVSA data indicates that there are still around 50,000, of the 64,652 MOT testers in the UK, that have not yet completed their annual training.

With a little over 3 months remaining the Independent Garage Association has urged MOT Stations to encourage their testers to complete their annual training before 31st March 2023 or face being struck off from testing.

Testers that don't take (or fail) the assessment by the deadline will immediately be suspended from testing. They'll not only have to complete the training to get back on the test, but will also have to complete a ‘demonstration test’ with a DVSA representative.

This year’s assessment pass mark remains at 80%, but due to the wide scope of the assessment syllabus, the IGA has advised testers to ensure they complete their training and assessment as early as possible to accommodate potential re-takes. It has also urged testers to find out how the RMI Academy of Automotive Skills can support your staff so they can confidently complete their requirements with time to spare.

Six MOT annual training packages are available to ensure that all testers can comply with DVSA’s compulsory training by this year’s deadline. These range from face-to-face training at your garage premises or an RMI Academy venue, to remote learning either online or in a physical workbook.
