More garages should offer car cleaning as part of a service.

That’s the result of a new survey from The Parts Alliance, which shows that 60 percent of motorists recommend a garage to a friend or family member based on the cleanliness of their car.

The Parts Alliance has suggested that car cleaning is an extra service that independent garages can charge for, as 46 percent of respondents to the survey said they were happy to pay between £3 and £8 for a clean car.

“Although independent garages are recognised as offering cost effective and efficient service, they can learn from franchised dealers, and look to offer a car valet or clean. However, rather than bolt the cost onto the total bill, which is current practice for most franchised dealers, independent garages should look to be more transparent and offer customers options that include a cost effective clean or valet,” said The Parts Alliance’s Dawn Pugh.

“Car cleaning and valet services represent an excellent opportunity for independent garages to build customer loyalty.
