GEA training to put new focus on MOT calibration

The Garage Equipment Association’s Engineer’s Accreditation Programme will take a new focus on preparing technicians for the MOT test.

A new emphasis will be put on calibration practices for brake testers, with an aim to eradicate bad practice.

Recently appointed President of the GEA Andrew Bates made the announcement at the organisation’s annual dinner. During his speech outlining the changes Andrew said: “he only people to fear this accreditation are the ones who have no concern for safety themselves, their clients, or the public.”

Chief Executive of the GEA Dave Garratt said: “The Vehicle Lift Installation Engineer’s Accreditation has been very successful in improving safety within our industry and has been supported by the HSE.  The next step in testing the skills and knowledge of those who calibrate MOT equipment will hopefully be as successful and already has the support of VOSA.”

The GEA also reports that it raised £3400 for motor industry charity BEN at its dinner.
