An unspecified number of counterfeit V-ribbed ContiTech belts have been seized in Casablanca, Morocco by local authorities.

A retailer was preparing to sell the fake belts when a tip-off from ContiTech led to the discovery and seizure of the belts which have since been destroyed.

ContiTech says that as well as its own products; counterfeit units from other manufacturers have been discovered during raids on several retailers.

To help prevent more counterfeit products from entering the market, ContiTech is sending a clear message to its customers: “We inform and warn retailers and garages of the dangers involved in using pirate products,” said Automotive Aftermarket Head Helmut Engel, warning that high maintenance and repair costs and even engine damage are the results of using such goods.
