CMA publish provisional Copart/Hills report

The Competition and Markets Authority has provisionally found that the completed acquisition by Copart of giant car breaking group Hills Motors  has 'resulted or may be expected to result' in a substantial lessening of competition in the supply of salvage services in the UK.

In a report outlining the provisional findings, the CMA  'found that the Merger may not be expected to give rise to an substantial lessening of competition in the supply of damaged and other used vehicles to dismantlers in the UK' as well as to insurance companies and other buyers of used parts.

This provisional report is not a final decision, and any interested parties can make submissions by no later than 5pm on Friday 26 May 2023. More details are available on the CMA's website. Read the full report here
