Supplier Mahle has launched what it claims to be the market's first OEM-quality on-board chargers and input filters for electric cars.
The parts will be offered for EVs built by Citroën, DS, Peugeot, Renault and Vauxhall. The input filters will be available from October, while the on-board chargers will be on the market by the end of the year.
Their launch marks a milestone in the aftermarket's support for electric cars, enabling garages to replace crucial electronics.
Input filters are used to manage the electricity charging a battery to prevent faults, while on-board chargers convert AC power from the electrical grid to DC that is stored in the battery. Both components are subject to high thermal loads, meaning they are prone to overheating or developing faults in the longer term.
