Brembo buys Öhlins for £310 million

High-end suspension manufacturer Öhlins has been purchased by brake-making giant Brembo.

Brembo acquired a 100% stake in the Swedish company for $405 million (£310m) – its biggest purchase yet. The deal is expected to be complete in early 2025, Brembo said in a statement.

Öhlins has some 500 employees across two factories and two R&D bases in Sweden and Thailand, plus four distribution centres in Sweden, Thailand, the US and Germany.

“Öhlins is a strong fit for Brembo,” said Brembo executive chairman Matteo Tiraboschi. “It is a world-renowned brand, with a solid business and an unrivalled reputation both on the racetrack and the road.”

Tom Wittenschlaeger, CEO of Öhlins, added: “As we join forces with Brembo, we are excited to unlock new growth opportunities and leverage our respective strengths and assets to drive innovation and deliver even greater value to our customers and employees.”

The news comes after Brembo recently sold its 5.6% stake in tyre manufacturer Pirelli.

Brembo also owns brake and clutch manufacturer AP Racing, motorcycle wheel maker Marchesini and Breco, which produces brake discs and drums.
